I'm passionate about learning new things. My interests started with racing cars but quickly expanded into computers. At the age of 16, I landed my first job as an intern graphic illustrator, and three years later had the privilege of working as both a designer and programmer to create one of Brazil's most successful music websites, called Usina do Som.
The early success helped me take a more significant jump, and in 2004, I co-founded NexTVision, a company focused on developing software for set-top boxes. Although I'm no longer a partner, the company still exists and has generated several million in profits for its remaining partners with the software platform we started.
Over the last decade, I have cofounded some other companies, including a cloud computing/social media platform in 2009, a crowdfunding startup for musicians in 2014, and an early-stage venture firm in 2017. Truth be told, even tho I enjoyed those experiences, none of them brought back the same sense of professional accomplishment that I had at the beginning of my career, not even the sabbatical year of 2012, which I took to create along with my father and brother, a reality TV show about racing.
For this reason, I still believe that my best work is ahead of me. All these projects and situations helped build a framework for the mind and a set of work ethics that go way beyond economic sucess, such as treating people and customers with respect, valuing time spent away from the office, and not taking shortcuts. I'm a 43 years old Brazilian living with my wife and our six-year-old daughter in São Jose do Rio Preto, a city approx 300 miles from São Paulo. In 1999, I took a semester from work to study English at the UC Berkeley; upon returning, I decided to study computer science and system information, graduating from Mackenzie Presbyterian University in 2005.
Car racing has been a passion I inherited from my father and nurtured thanks to my parents' investment. My first experience was with a go-kart in 95, evolved into formula cars, and most recently resulted in a couple of races at Formula Inter.
A couple of years ago I started running and discovered the wonder world of long distance running, with a lot of discipline and some life style changes I was able to complete two marathons, and set a personal best of 3 hours and 41 minutes at the age of 42. Hopefully my aspirations for running will continue to push me forward the ultimate goal of running the Boston Marathon.
Maximum happiness return is the compass influencing the tools I use, how I work, and projects I join. For this reason, I'm a proponent of a healthy environment, embracing remote working and focused on long-term returns. Besides wellness, I enjoy studying and debating astrophysics, chess, economics, genetics, product design, and new technologies.
Sou apaixonado por aprender coisas novas. Meus interesses começaram com corridas de carros, mas rapidamente se expandiram para a área de computação. Aos 16 anos, consegui meu primeiro emprego como estagiário de ilustração gráfica, e três anos depois, tive o privilégio de trabalhar como designer e programador para para criar um dos sites de música mais bem-sucedidos do Brasil, chamado Usina do Som.
Esse "sucesso" logo no início me deu coragem para dar um passo maior, e em 2004 cofundar uma empresa focada no desenvolvimento de software para set-top boxes IP. Apesar de não ser mais sócio, essa empresa ainda existe e já produziu alguns milhões em lucros para seus sócios atuais.
Na última década eu cofundei algumas outras empresas, incluíndo uma plataforma para cloud computing e social media em 2009, uma startup de crowdfunding para musicos em 2014, e um pequeno fundo de investimento para empresas de internet em 2017. Verdade seja dita, apesar de ter gostado de todas essas experiências, nenhuma delas trouxe o mesmo senso de realização profissional que eu conquistei no início de minha carreira, nem mesmo o ano sabático de 2012, que tirei para junto de meu pai e irmão, criarmos um reality show sobre corridas para TV.
Por esse motivo, eu ainda acredito que meu melhor trabalho esta por vir. Todos esses projetos e situações me ajudaram a construir uma forma de pensar e estabelecer um conjunto de éticas em relação ao trabalho, como tratar as pessoas e clientes com respeito, valorizar o tempo fora do escritório e não tomar atalhos. Eu sou um brasileiro de 43 anos que vive com a esposa e nossa filha de 6 anos em São José do Rio Preto, aproximadamente 450km de São Paulo. Em 1999 eu tirei um semestre do trabalho para estudar inglês na UC Berkeley; após retornar, decidi estudar ciência da computação e sistemas de informação, graduando pela Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie em 2005.
Corridas de carro é uma paixão que herdei do meu pai e alimentada graças aos investimentos da minha família. Minha primeira experiência foi com um kart em 95, evoluiu para carros de fórmula e recentemente resultou na participação em um par de corridas na Fórmula Inter.
Retorno máximo em felicidade é a bussula guiando as ferramentas que eu uso, a forma como trabalho, e os projetos que eu participo. Por esse motivo, sou um proponente de um ambiente saudável, abraçando o trabalho remoto e focado em resultados de longo prazo. Além do bem estar, gosto de estudar e conversar sobre astrofisica, xadrez, economia, genética, criação de produto e novas tecnologias.
Writing has been a good companion in recent years, comforting me in difficult times and helping me to digest the
ways of life. I write daily (weekly at least), but fail to share as much as I could and sometimes share my thoughts and other interesting topics here. These posts are other posts that reached escape velocity.
